How Wellness Industry Experts Up Their Routines with Red Light Therapy
There’s a reason Red Light Therapy is all the rage with fitness, beauty and wellness experts — because it reaps real results.
But don’t just take our word for it — here’s what celebrity trainer and gym owner Jono Castano and his lifestyle-guru business partner, Amy Castano, had to say about all the ways in which they’ve integrated red light into their routines.

Jono: “I was trying to find ways to recover smarter, not harder. When you’re training clients all day and still keeping your own body performing at a high level, any edge matters. I kept hearing athletes talk about red light for inflammation and muscle repair, so I wanted to test it on myself.”
While Jono’s focus was on recovery, Amy added that skincare was her original reason for getting into a regular red light practice.
“For me, it was skincare first! I kept seeing dermatologists use it for collagen, glow, and healing,” she said. “I tried it once after a facial and loved how calm and de-puffed my face looked. From there, I got curious about all the wellness benefits, not just the beauty ones.”

Amy, who co-owns Acero with Jono, added that it was important for her to see red light as a ritual, not a chore. As such, we asked for specifics about her exact routine, which starts with exfoliating skincare so her “skin can really drink the light in.” After skincare, she positions herself comfortably in front of the panel, then adds a podcast or meditation so she can use the time to disconnect.
“No notifications, no multitasking,” she noted, “but sometimes I’ll sip my electrolytes or coffee. If you’re using it for beauty, consistency matters more than intensity.”
For Jono, he prefers stacking red light back-to-back with his sauna sessions, or at night while watching TV or planning his next day.
“If you’re new to it, set it up as a habit anchor and pair it with something you already do,” he said. “And keep it simple — find a calm space with minimal stimulation and slow your breathing down. Treat it as a reset rather than another task.”
Jono noted that, since integrating Red Light Therapy into his day-to-day, he’s noticed faster recovery between heavy sessions, reduced inflammation in his joints, mental clarity on high-output days, and what he called “the biggest one” — better sleep.
“Doing it before bed gets me into a deeper state of sleep, “ he said. “It actually works. My markers of recovery improved, less post-session soreness, improved sleep quality, and I felt ‘switched on’ instead of drained. Once something genuinely helps me show up better for my clients and myself, it becomes a non-negotiable.”
He also said his recovery window dropped massively, DOMS wasn’t as aggressive, and he noticed he wasn’t waking up as stiffly.
“My sleep routine became more regulated, which is massive,” he said. “Sleep is the real performance enhancer.”
Amy agreed on noticing better sleep and added that consistent Red Light Therapy has kept her inflammation down, helps with breakouts, and gives her that “lit-from-within” look.
“My skin tone evened out, my breakouts healed faster, and my overall glow was way more noticeable. I sleep deeper on nights I do it, and I’m less puffy in the mornings.”
As if that wasn’t reason enough to pick red light, she noted it helps with lymphatic drainage support, calmness and reduced stress. And for someone balancing multiple businesses and constant overseas travel, that alone makes the habit worth it!
