Three of Bryan Johnson’s top tools to combat aging

How the World-Leading Wellness Guru uses Red Light and PEMF Therapies

In 2026, “do you really want to live forever?” isn’t just a Rod Stewart song lyric. It’s a real question everyday people are asking themselves amidst the rise of biohackers and wellness gurus, perhaps none more so than Bryan Johnson, the tech millionaire and subject of Netflix’s buzzworthy documentary Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever.

Johnson’s mission to push longevity to its limits includes a militant daily routine focussed on optimising his body’s natural processes and slowing (or even reversing) aging. Having founded multiple science-backed companies and publishing books on the topic, he’s been touted as the world’s leading anti-aging practitioner. However, he touts himself as a ‘human lab rat’.

The good news is, you don’t need to take 100 supplements or commit to a 20-step morning regime to establish your own anti-aging routine. In fact, two staples of Johnson’s protocol — PEMF Therapy and Red Light Therapy — are effortless and enjoyable steps towards slowing down aging by speeding up cellular functions.

So whether or not you want to ‘live forever,’ the below have been shown to help you live better.

PEMF MATS:

Formally known as Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, lying on a PEMF mat is one of the easiest yet most effective anti-aging methods. Similar to Gary Brecka, Johnson has also publicly touted daily PEMF usage, which he slots in strategically after morning workouts and just before Red Light Therapy.

So why then? And why every day?

PEMF mats, like our Align and Restore versions, use gentle electromagnetic energy to support circulation and enhance cellular function. Basically, faster cells = faster recovery. And slower aging. As Johnson notoriously trains every day — even calling his recovery day ‘active’ — PEMF is critical for ensuring he’s prepared to workout again within 24 hours.

But PEMF therapy isn’t just physically healing. It has mental benefits as well. With comparable effects to ‘grounding’ — the practice of touching the Earth every day — PEMF mats’ rhythmic waves help settle the nervous system to encourage relaxation and support restorative sleep.

Ours use a number of natural crystals — amethyst, sodalite, agate etc. — to bring the Earth’s healing properties into your home for everyday use, at any time of year you want. You can read more about the specific crystals and their benefits on our blog.

If you’re new to PEMF, we suggest starting with short 30-minute sessions, up to three times daily, leaving at least two hours between sessions for best results.

If that sounds like a lot, we recommend stacking your mat time with other parts of your routine. For instance, Johnson is known to use his vagus nerve stimulation device and Red Light Therapy panels while lying on his mat.

Which brings us to his next age-avoiding ritual: Red Light.

RED LIGHT THERAPY:

Similar to PEMF therapy, Red Light is another low-effort yet clinically-backed method for boosting cellular function. While you may simply be sitting in front of the light, it has your mitochondria working hard, enhancing your cells’ production of ATP (the body’s natural energy source) and encouraging natural cellular renewal. These revitalised cells contribute to a brighter appearance, increased muscle recovery, improved circulation, and more, making it the perfect PEMF mat pairing.

Our Red Light Pro and Red Light Mini panels use medical-grade Red Light with three precision light modes (Red Light, Near Infrared or Combined Mode) to target your specific needs.

While Johnson uses his daily to support recovery and avoid aging, our users report benefits from just 3-5 sessions per week, around 10–20 minutes per session, depending on the area being treated and the device intensity. Like anything, consistency is key and results are cumulative. You may notice immediate benefits — like deep relaxation or improved sleep — but other longevity processes will take more time.
